Annual Conference 2009

The fourth annual mtmconsulting / Veale Wasbrough conference:

Practical Strategies for Challenging Times: Slide download

Tuesday 15th September 2009

 Institute of Directors, 116 Pall Mall, London SW1

mtmconsulting’s fourth annual conference on strategic issues for independent schools, organised by the leading business and legal advice firms in independent education, mtmconsulting and Veale Wasbrough Lawyers took place at the Institute of Directors on 15th September 2009.

This annual event is now firmly established as the strategic conference for school heads, bursars, governors and those responsible for the success of independent schools.

These are indeed challenging times. The effects of the recession and the banking crisis will reach into every sector of the economy and schools will not be immune. Any weaknesses in your educational or business strategy will be exposed by the harder times ahead.

But the challenge is also an opportunity – an opportunity to focus on the fundamentals of running a sound educational business and ensuring that what your school offers is in line with demand as conditions improve. The aim of this conference was essentially practical: to look at the business of running schools from different perspectives, to offer workshops to give you new ideas and practical initiatives to take away with you.

Speakers included:

  • Sir David Bell, Chair of Council of Roehampton University, Director of Pearson (the world’s largest educational publisher) and former Chief Executive of the Financial Times;
  • Robert Fletcher, ex Regional Director, Saatchi Company (North America) with clients including Proctor & Gamble, BA, Audi, Johnson & Johnson, Chase & Toyota;
  • John MacGregor, Head of Specialised Commercial Banking, Coutts & Co;
  • Anastasia de Waal, Director of Family and Education, Civitas.
