School focus groups
Sometimes schools need to gain insights into key issues that a survey or telephone interview can’t cover. mtmconsulting follows best practice guidelines to carry out innovative and open focus groups with parents, pupils and staff.
We carry out in depth, open-forum focus groups with your key stakeholders: parents, staff, pupils and alumni.
These focus groups can be tailored to cover any topic and are an ideal means to cover key aspects of your school in more depth than telephone or online surveys allow.
Focus groups tend to be informal and open discussions following a defined structure and led in a ‘dual moderator’ format – with two consultants present to ensure notes are well-recorded and the forum is driven forward. Groups typically last 1.5 hours, with an ideal group size of 10-12. Two or more focus groups should be undertaken in order to provide a check on the findings.
mtm’s focus groups are an excellent means of really exploring sentiment and perceptions of your school with key respondents. The informal and face-to-face nature of the groups means that participants are likely to be open and honest, and our approach to focus groups allows you to gain comprehensive feedback on aspects of your school.
Parents generally respond very well to school focus groups, understanding that you are listening to their feedback and showing willingness to take part. Meanwhile, the opportunity for staff, pupils and alumni to feedback on their experiences and ideas to an impartial and professional third-party is always well received.
