The mtmconsulting Independent Education Sector Report 2010 is referred to in this article in The Telegraph, which reports that this year’s fee rise at the 250 HMC (Headmasters’ and Headmistresses’ conference) is half as high as the last year’s fee increase.
The report follows the release of mtmconsulting’s Independent Education Sector Report 2010, released last month, which suggested that independent schools must control fee increases over the coming years in order to survive falling affordability in the wake of the recession.
The article refers to a research study produced by the HMC, which also found that total pupil roll numbers in HMC schools had increased on September 2008 figures by 0.5%. However, the article also mentions that “the equivalent of 1,100 pupils were pulled out of HMC schools in the last academic year due to financial reasons”.
The paper paraphrases the Independent Education Sector Report 2010, saying “almost a third of pupils currently educated in the independent sector would be priced out over the next 20 years if fees continued to rise at their present rate.”
