mtmconsulting’s seminar today at Coutts bank on The Strand was well received by delegates.
The half-day seminar at the Coutts offices, which included lunch, drew around 40 delegates, made up of heads, bursars, marketing directors and governors of many of the UK’s leading independent schools. Feedback from delegates on the day showed that the four presentations provided the attendees with invaluable educational strategic thinking to return to their schools with.
mtmconsulting’s Head of Schools Research Dick Davison led the first session, exploring the findings of mtm’s recently published publication on the private education market: mtmconsulting Independent Education Sector Report 2010. Dick assessed the likely implications of recession, public spending cuts, Conservative education policy, Swedish-style free schools and schools’ business management on the UK’s schools.
Former Headmaster of the Perse School in Cambridge, Nigel Richardson went on to outline the content of his ‘educational toolkit’, advising schools to review their curriculum and assess the effectiveness of staff and governing bodies to ensure their educational leadership is fit for purpose. Ex-bursar of the Lady Eleanor Holles School, Nigel Noble then gave a rigourous and well structured presentation on the best cost-management measures that schools should implement to steer their finances safely through the next decade.
The sessions were concluded by mtmconsulting’s Principal, Melanie Tucker, who presented her talk Practically Full: Sales and Marketing for Independent Schools, which looked at how independent schools’ marketing functions must remain focussed and ensure that pupil attraction and retention activities are appropriate and streamlined.
mtm Schools Consultant Joe Faulkner said, “the delegates here today were grateful for the opportunity to focus on the implications of mtm’s thinking for their schools, and to consider how their school’s business strategy may be best aligned with future trends. The format of the educational strategy seminar was well received and mtm have already been asked when the next event of this type will be.”
