At MTM, we are proud of the MTMinsights events series, a number of informal seminars designed to give you practical skills and advice to take home, followed by lunch. One of the most successful and memorable for me was ‘the do’s and don’ts of mumsnet’ which we hope to repeat early next year. Below are details of our forthcoming events programme. Please do get in touch if there are any hot topics you would like us to cover in the near future!

Nursery retention – How do we make free childcare work for us?

22nd November 2017, 9.30-1.30
2 Angel Square, London, EC1V 1NY

The allocation of free hours of childcare for all children aged 3 and 4 has had a positive effect on the usage of our nurseries. However, most of our schools do not implement selection criteria at Nursery level, so are finding that many children using our nursery facilities do not go on to join Reception. As such we have prepared a programme to detail:

What is the current childcare policy and why do we have it?
Len Shackleton
Professor of Economics, University of Buckingham

Len has recently published a report on how to reduce state involvement in childcare, but in this session he will detail the current policy and the thought behind it.

How do we manage 30 hours?
Kim Davies
Marketing Manager, Claires Court Schools

Our schools DO NOT have to implement the policy, but what is the impact for our schools if we do? How do we ensure we maintain a sustainable nursery that reflects our ethos? Kim will discuss the challenges she faces in her nursery, the decisions made to make it sustainable, and her plans for the future.

How do we increase retention levels in a difficult market?
Deborah McKenzie,
Head of Marketing & Business Development, MTM

Deborah was Marketing Manager at Terra Nova for 7 years, during which time she improved retention. She will detail a number of methods to improve retention from Nursery into Reception, considering many families may not be from typical independent school backgrounds.

GDPR – Is it really as scary as it sounds?

16th November 2017, 9.30-1.30
2 Angel Square, London, EC1V 1NY

The introduction of the new General Data Protection Regulations from the 25th May 2018 will mean a change of protocols and practices for all of us. With headlines stating we can be fined up to £17million for breaches, is it really as scary as it sounds? We have gathered three experts to help decipher the details:

What is GDPR?
Sandy Gilchrist
GDPR compliance expert

Sandy will talk through the basics of GDPR, what it means to you, and take you through some practical steps to ensure you comply.

What are the risks involved of getting it wrong, and how do I avoid those?
Lyndsey Nelson

Lyndsey has seen it go wrong many times. She will outline the most common pitfalls and how to avoid them, providing you with a fool-proof check list.

How did Talk Talk get it so wrong… again!

We have tracked down the PR firm behind Talk Talk. They will discuss what went wrong at Talk Talk and how to limit the damage in the event of a breach.
