The date of the September Proprietorial Schools’ Forum event – the latest in our series of half day seminar and discussion events for owners and heads of proprietorial schools, is confirmed as 13th September.

The Proprietorial Schools’ Forum has proved highly popular since its inception in September 2008. The Forum was established in response to demand for an event at which private owners of schools could meet to discuss exclusively the issues which concern them.

mtm / Veale Wasbrough Vizards independent schools strategy conference details released

The draft programme for the fifth mtmconsulting / Veale Wasbrough Vizards annual conference on independent schools’ strategy has been released. The conference, organised by the leading business and legal advisors in the independent education sector will take place at the Institute of Directors on Tuesday 14th September 2010.

Last year’s conference was a great success, attended by Heads, Bursars and independent school marketing directors alike.

mtm’s senior schools consultant, Joe Faulkner, said “interest in the conference has grown and grown every year since we started it. We are expecting a really high demand for places this year, with schools and education having been at the forefront of all the parties’ election manifestos and the impacts of the recession in everyones minds. We have given the conference the title ‘Practical Strategies for a New Decade, and I think this is really pertinent following the general election. I have no doubt that the conference will be of great interest to all schools”.

The 2009 mtmconsulting / Veale Wasbrough Vizards conference attracted great interest.

Conference speakers will include Graham Able, Chief Executive of Alpha Plus; Dick Davison of mtm; Anders Hultin, CEO of GEMS UK; and Peter McCaffrey, Vice-Chancellor of Cumbria University.

mtmconsulting / Veale Wasbrough Vizards conference: ‘Practical Strategies for a New Decade’ Tuesday 14th September 2010, Institute of Directors, Pall Mall, London

The date of the fifth annual conference on strategic issues for independent schools - organised by the leading business and legal advice firms in independent education, mtmconsulting and Veale Wasbrough Vizards - is confirmed as 14th September 2010.

This annual event, staged at the beginning of the school year, is now firmly established as the independent school strategy conference for heads, bursars, governors and those responsible for success.

These are challenging times for independent schools. To the continuing effects of the deepest recession since the 1930s will be added a new and possibly uncertain political environment. But challenges also bring opportunities: to focus on the fundamentals of running a sound educational business and ensuring that what your school offers is in line with demand as conditions improve.

The aim of this conference remains essentially practical: to look at the business of running and marketing schools from different perspectives, to offer workshops which will give you new ideas and practical initiatives to take away with you.

Amongst the speakers will be:

Graham Able - Chief Executive of Alpha Plus Group, a privately-owned chain of independent schools. Until 2009 he was Master of Dulwich College and is a former Chairman of the Headmasters’ and Headmistresses’ Conference
Professor Paul Collier - Professor of Economics at Oxford University
Professor Peter McCaffrey - Vice-Chancellor of Cumbria University and an expert in change management
Mike Baker - award-winning freelance journalist, broadcaster and education expert. He was the BBC’s education editor for nearly 20 years and is now education columnist for BBC News Online and The Guardian
