Recession ends, but have the effects been felt by independent school businesses?

The country is officially out of recession, showing growth in the last quarter of just 0.1%, reports The Evening Standard. While this is likely to promote some positive reaction amongst business leaders in all sectors, the effects on independent school pupil numbers and finances are not yet likely to have been felt, writes Joe Faulkner, Schools Marketing Consultant at mtmconsulting.

Independent school research shows fees top £30k for the first time

A study published by the Good Schools Guide has shown that school fees at a handful of British boarding schools have topped £30,000 for the first time. The study also suggests that “nationally, average fees have increased by some 40% in the past five years”. The findings juxtapose unhappily with mtmconsulting’s Independent Education Sector Report 2010 which has asserted that “schools will have to cut fee inflation”.

Ed Balls on Labour education policy

Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families, Ed Balls has written in the Guardian newspaper of his willingness to participate in open debate on education ahead of the 2010 election, his doubts about Conservative plans to roll-out Swedish-style ‘free’ schools and Labour’s focus for UK schools. The two main parties’ conflicting educational policies and the likely repercussions for UK independent school businesses were explored in depth in the trending sections of mtmconsulting’s Independent Education Sector Report 2010.
